In order to upgrade the ship's weapons, secret spots must be found, just like the secret stages in Gradius 2 and the predictions in MSX Salamander. This is the only game in the Gradius series which visibly keeps track of the number of speed boosts. This version of the game looks absolutely fantastic with a cool animated intro to boot. Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou is the long-lost Gradius series sequel that came to the TurboGrafx-CD in Japan, but, for whatever reason, never made the leap across the Pacific to arrive on our shores. The first notable aspect of Gradius 2 is the presentation. Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou (Gofer’s Ambition), called Vulcan Venture in Europe, upgrades almost everything from the original game, and sets down most of the traditions that define the series. That might be my personal bias as I really love the game but I feel it is true. The game retains several of the new weapons introduced in Gradius 2 like "Up Laser", "Fire Blaster" and "Vector Laser" as well as MSX Salamander weapons like "Meteor Laser" and "Screw Laser". For its time Gradius 2 Gofer no Yabou was the best version money could buy and one of the best shooters on the system. It's also possible to choose the behavior of "Option", from the original shadow movement, "Fixed" and "Rolling", like the "Option Warrior" from Gradius 2. All four classes may choose between the classic "Shield" or the "Force Field", which takes less hits to expire, but protects from any direction. The fourth one is more like the Sabel Tiger from the MSX version of Salamander, featuring the 2-way missile approach and "Ripple Laser". The third one is more like Metalion from Gradius 2, featuring "Napalm Missile" and (Extended) "Fire Blaster". The second one is a twisted version of Vic Viper, featuring the new "Photon Missile". However, a majority of the bosses follow a similar principle to the one set by the Big Core: one or more cores which must be destroyed in order to defeat a boss, and which are protected by a set of barriers which must be worn down and blasted away in order to expose the core. Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou ( ) is a Shoot Em Up video game published by Konami released on December 18th, 1992 for the TurboGrafx-CD. The first one resembles the original Vic Viper. Unlike the original Gradius, which featured the same boss battle against a Big Core at the end of most stages, Gradius II presents unique and varied bosses throughout the game, some of which unusual strategies to defeat. Similar to the arcade version of Gradius II, four distinct classes of Vixen can be chosen. The Vic Viper is replaced by a new ship called the Vixen (4 classes) piloted by David Burton, a direct descendent of James who is assisted by his AI Gaudie. ![]() Just like the first Gradius, Gradius 2 has an extra level not available in any other port most notably the Arcade. Just as with the original Gradius, the PC Engine version of the game offers an exclusive stage which does not appear in the arcade, or any other home conversions. Venom and James Burton has died in the year 6718. PC Engine Longplay 294 Gradius II Gofer no Yabou : Kage Negra : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive.
